Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate is an impact-resistant material and is ideal for projects where the material needs to be robust. However, polycarbonate is not suitable for projects where it is to be used for decorative purposes, as it absorbs a great deal of colour during laser cutting.

Good to know
Polycarbonate is an impact-resistant, clear plastic with a glossy surface. It is often used for window panes, safety glass, signs, etc., and is also well suited for stencils. If the stencil is to be used with a roller or sponge, 1 mm polycarbonate is recommended.

Please note that the edges take on a yellow/brown colour after laser cutting and that the material itself does not look particularly attractive. If necessary, wipe with a damp cloth to remove any soot residue before placing it on a clean surface.

Line and surface engraving
Polycarbonate can be engraved both with lines and on the surface. However, it should not be used for decorative purposes, as polycarbonate takes on a yellow/brown colour after engraving. Heavy line and surface engraving causes discolouration around the engraved area.

Surface engraving is not possible on formats larger than A1.

Laser cutting
Top side
– As standard, a film is applied to the top side before cutting. Consequently, the material emerges without any marks after cutting.
Edges – The edges turn yellow/dark and may leave marks.
Bottom – As standard, a film is applied to the bottom before cutting. Consequently, the bottom appears free of any noticeable marks. A small amount of smoke may seep under the film, but this can easily be removed with a cloth.
