Good to know
OSB is a wood-based product originally developed for use in the construction industry and similar sectors. However, it can also be used for creative furniture or interior design projects, for example.
OSB is manufactured from a mixture of adhesive and wood shavings that are pressed together under pressure and heat.
Line engraving
The material can be line-engraved. Where line engraving takes place, the material takes on a darker shade.
Avoid burn marks
A protective film on the top and/or underside can be selected as an option when ordering, which prevents the worst soot and burn marks from the laser.
Laser cutting
Top side – Along the cutting line, the wood will take on a dark colour. This can be avoided by applying film before cutting. Film can be selected as an option when ordering.
Edges – The edges will turn brown and may stain. Excess soot can be wiped away with a slightly damp cloth, but the edges will remain dark afterwards. Sanding can remove the dark edges completely. Bear in mind that the thicker the OSB board, the darker the edges will be.
Bottom – Discolouration will occur on the bottom after cutting. This usually takes the form of a hexagonal pattern, depending on the surface on which the cutting is carried out. Protective film, which protects against most of this, can be selected when ordering to protect the surface.
