This MDF board is coated with a layer of light oak veneer on both sides. MDF is a special type of wood made from waste material from the timber industry mixed with adhesive. MDF is dimensionally stable, easy to work with and is often used for models and prototypes.
Facts
Technical designation: Oak-veneered MDF, light oak/Oak-veneered MDF, natural oak
Density: 0.7 g/cm³
Tolerance, thickness: +/- 10 %
Veneer quality: A/B
Good to know
Veneered MDF, light oak consists of a core of standard MDF, with a layer of light oak veneer glued to both sides.
Veneered MDF is not suitable for outdoor use or in damp environments without a surface treatment. Just like standard MDF, veneered MDF is easy to sand and work with.
The veneer on both sides of the board may look different. However, the grain pattern will be the same.
Line and surface engraving
The material can be engraved both linearly and on the surface. The material takes on a darker shade where it is engraved. The deeper the engraving, the darker the colour becomes. The colour of the engraving, just like the colour of the wood, may vary from board to board.
With deep line and surface engraving, discolouration may occur around the engraved area, particularly with surface engraving. However, this can be easily removed by light sanding.
Surface engraving is not possible on sizes larger than A1.
Avoid burn marks
A protective film on the top and/or bottom can be selected as an option when ordering, which prevents the worst soot and burn marks from the laser. A-format sheets come with a protective film on the back as standard.
Wood grain
If you have any preferences regarding the wood grain and your design, please let us know by drawing an arrow in your file to indicate how we should orient the sheet. Please also state in the comments field when placing your order that you have specific requirements in this regard.
Applies only to A-sizes.
Laser cutting
Top – Along the cut line, the wood will have a slight dark discolouration. This can be removed by applying foil before cutting. This can be selected as an option when placing your order.
Edges – The edges will turn brown and may stain. Excess soot can be wiped away with a slightly damp cloth, but the edges will remain dark afterwards. Sanding can remove the dark edges completely.
Bottom – As standard, a protective film is applied to the bottom before cutting (on A-size sheets). Consequently, the bottom appears without any noticeable marks. On full sheets, protective film must be selected to avoid marks on the reverse side. A small amount of soot may seep under the film, but this can easily be removed with fine-grit sandpaper. It is also possible to have double-sided adhesive tape applied if the cut-out is to be mounted on a wall or similar surface.
Finishing
MDF with oak veneer can be painted, just like standard MDF, but it is usually left untreated, oiled or varnished to protect the surface.
