Good to know
Small details are not suitable for bamboo, as the material burns away easily when cut by the laser. In some places, the laser may not have cut right through the material, which is due to the adhesive used. You can gently press the details out completely.
Line and surface engraving
Both line and surface engraving are possible on bamboo. The material takes on a dark colour where it is engraved. The deeper the engraving, the darker the colour.
Avoid burn marks
When placing your order, you can opt for a protective film to avoid the worst marks caused by smoke and cutting. However, this is not possible with surface engraving.
Wood grain
If you have any preferences regarding the wood grain and your design, please let us know by drawing an arrow in your file to show how we should orient the board. Please also state in the comments field when placing your order that you have specific requirements in this regard.
This is only possible for A-sizes.
Laser cutting
Top surface – Along the cutting line, the wood will take on a slight dark discolouration. This can be removed by light sanding. Alternatively, you can opt for a protective film when placing your order, which will help avoid the worst marks.
Edges – The edges are brown and may stain. Excess soot can be wiped away with a slightly damp cloth, but the edges will remain black afterwards. Sanding can remove the black edges completely.
Base – Along the cut line, there will be soot deposits and marks from the surface on which the material was cut. Alternatively, you can opt for a protective film when ordering, which will prevent the worst marks.
Finishing
Bamboo can be finished with oil to achieve a beautiful sheen. Alternatively, it can be varnished to provide extra durability.
