Aeroplan is an extremely high-quality birch cross-grain veneer with many layers, making it particularly strong and flexible.
Facts
Technical designation: Aeroplan cross-ply/Aeroplan plywood (MR-glued)
Density: 0.7 g/cm³
Tolerance: +/- 25%
Good to know
Cross-grain plywood is often used for architectural models, jewellery, model aeroplanes/model ships and furniture. As wood is an organic material, the sheets may vary slightly in colour.
Line and surface engraving
Birch cross-grain plywood is widely used for many purposes, such as interior design, construction, architectural models, jewellery, signs and works of art.
Aeroplank cross-grain plywood can be engraved both linearly and on the surface. The material takes on a darker shade where it is engraved. The deeper the engraving, the darker the colour. The colour of the engraving, just like the colour of the wood, may vary from sheet to sheet.
Heavy line or surface engraving may cause discolouration around the engraved area. This is particularly true of surface engraving. However, this can be easily removed by light sanding.
Avoid burn marks
A protective film on the top and/or underside can be selected as an option when ordering, which helps to prevent the worst soot and burn marks caused by the laser.
Wood grain
If you have any preferences regarding the wood grain and your design, please let us know by drawing an arrow in your file to show how we should orient the board. Please also let us know in the comments field when placing your order if you have any specific requests in this regard.
This is only possible for A-sizes.
Laser cutting
Top side – Along the cut line, the wood will have a slight dark discolouration. This can be removed by light sanding.
Edges – The edges will appear dark and may stain. Excess ash can be wiped away with a slightly damp cloth, but the edges will remain black afterwards. Sanding can remove the black edges completely. Bear in mind that the thicker the material, the more sooted the edge will be.
Underside – Along the cut line, there will be marks from smoke and the surface on which the material was cut. If the underside is visible in the finished product, it usually needs to be sanded or painted.
NB! The material is now bonded with a different adhesive, which is MR (moisture-resistant) only. It therefore now behaves more like birch cross-grain veneer for indoor use.
